We’re building the structure women need to lead change – locally and globally.

Across the world, women are carrying rising violence, shrinking rights, economic pressure, and deep isolation.

At the same time, they’re already doing their best: organizing care networks, mentoring youth, strengthening communities.

What’s been missing isn’t passion or leadership ability.

It’s infrastructure — the dependable structure that helps women act, connect, and sustain change.
Solena exists to provide exactly that.

What We Are

A global backbone for women’s local leadership

Solena connects women into small, intergenerational Circles, each rooted in its local reality and focused on one shared challenge.

Circles stay fully locally led, while Solena provides the support that makes their work stronger and safer:

  • Training and practical tools
  • Cross-cultural mentorship and learning
  • A global Solutions Library of community-tested models
  • Safety and care systems
  • A Shared Fund that redistributes resources equitably
Rather than creating programs, we’re designing infrastructure for a movement: a long-term system designed for women to organize, lead, and grow together across borders.

Our Vision

A world where women have equal power, opportunity, and safety, supported by strong local community and global solidarity.

The Solena Model

Solena Circles

Intergenerational groups of 10–25 women who meet regularly for shared care, leadership, and one focused community initiative each year.

Global Network

Year-round training, twinning with a sister Circle abroad, cross-Circle mentorship, and shared learning across cultures.

Shared Fund

Tiered dues sustain Circle operations, subsidize low-resource communities, and fund microgrants without creating charity dynamics.

Why “Solena”?

The name Solena comes from sol and luna — the sun and the moon.

Across cultures, they represent renewal, cycles, and the shared forces that shape our lives. Together, they symbolize connection: different sources of light for humanity, each powerful on its own but interconnected.

Solena reflects the idea behind our movement: women linking across communities and borders, forming a constellation of leadership and support that no one person or place could create alone.

We are a network of women whose collective power shines brighter than any single light.

Our Founders

Solena is built by two women who have spent years supporting other women, in very different environments and realities.

Janice Levenhagen

Janice (U.S./France) has spent over a decade building women’s communities, designing global programs, and leading nonprofit organizations. She previously founded and scaled one of the U.S.’s largest women-in-tech movements, working across cities and countries to create opportunities for girls and women in STEM. Her work focuses on community-led leadership, global learning systems, and building structures that help women lead change.

Ruth Ibrahim

Ruth (Kenya) is a community organizer, mentor, and advocate for young mothers and women in low-resource contexts. She has led grassroots initiatives supporting women’s livelihoods, safety, and economic stability, and brings deep experience in navigating the realities women face in rural and underserved communities. Ruth anchors Solena’s work in cultural nuance, dignity, and practical, community-rooted leadership.

Women everywhere are carrying more responsibility with fewer supports. Violence is rising, rights are rolling back, and economic pressures are tightening — but the instinct to connect, protect, and act has never been stronger. Across cultures, women are already building solutions; what’s been missing is the structure that connects their efforts and sustains them.

Solena is that structure — and this is the moment to shape it.

Whether you want to start a Circle, contribute your skills, or help fund the Shared Fund that powers women-led change across contexts, there’s a place for you in this movement.
